The History Of Jazz Piano part II
Darrell Grant • Pianist
All seats $20.00

Pianist Darrell Grant returns to the Old Siskiyou Barn by popular demand. After Darrell's 2003 concert and lecture "The History of Jazz Piano", we received many requests to have him back for a second concert and workshop.

In his Friday evening concert, Professor Grant will present a performance-lecture on the history of jazz piano in the latter half of the 20th century. He will perform and talk about the music of Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and other piano greats.

The Old Siskiyou Barn, with its small intimate setting, is perfectly suited to this salon-style format that has been so well received in the past. Those of you who have heard Darrell play at the Barn or the Craterian Theater over the past few years know what a treat this evening performance promises to be.

Darrell Grant is a critically acclaimed artist and educator with a background in classical music as well as jazz. Holding degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Miami, Grant's solo and collaborative performances regularly blend classical themes with jazz, gospel and other styles. Teaching jazz improvisation and jazz piano at PSU, Grant is regularly called upon to demystify the improvisation process for musicians of all backgrounds. Darrell joined the faculty of Portland State University's School of Fine and Performing Arts in 1997.

As an associate professor in the jazz department, he teaches Applied Jazz Piano, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Arranging, Ear Training, Keyboard Harmony, and coaches Jazz Combos.
