Ms. Kransberg-Talvi has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, including Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Kennedy Center Orchestra, Peter Britt Festival Orchestra, under the batons of Harry Ellis Dickson, Gerard Schwarz, Joseph Silverstein and James DePreist, to name a few. She has also been featured as recitalist on a number of prominent series, including Gardner Museum in Boston, Bargemusic in New York, and frequently on Northwest Chamber Orchestra's Showcase, which Ms.Kransberg-Talvi helped to create and served as Artistic Director until 2003. Pianist Dianne Chilgren is a noted American pianist who has maintained a distinguished career as a soloist and chamber player, appearing with major orchestras in London, Madrid, Geneva, Monte Carlo, Zurich as well as many cities in the United States. Her New York solo recitals in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Town Hall, and Carnegie Hall have all received high critical acclaim. She has recorded under the label of Mark Records as well as for radio and television in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. A recipient of the "Notable American Award," she has also been cited in "Who's Who of American Women," and "The International Dictionary of Musicians." Formerly piano soloist with the New York City Ballet under the direction of George Balanchine, she now holds the same position at Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle under the direction of Kent Stowell and Francia Russell. She has earned advanced degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy as well as her Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and Indiana University. She was invited to record the piano soundtrack for several pre-existing silent dance films of George Balanchine's choreography at the SONY Music Studios in New York City, under the auspices of the Lincoln Center Library of Performing Arts and the Balanchine Foundation. This historic event was covered in a feature article for 'The New Yorker Magazine' by renowned dance critic, Arlene Croce. These films and the documentary footage of the process were presented on the "Speaking Out" Series hosted by the Lincoln Center Library, televised on WNET in New York City, and were also recently presented on a lecture series in McCaw Hall (opera and ballet performance theater) in Seattle, where Ms. Chilgren was guest speaker. Ms. Chilgren has performed in various galas for such notables as the King and Queen of Spain in Madrid, Princess Grace in Monocco, President and Mrs. Gerald Ford in New York City. In addition to her performing career, she also teaches piano/pedagogy at her home in Seattle. Piano and Violin Masterclass Marjorie Kransberg-Talvi and Diane Chilgren will conduct an informal workshop involving the nature, preparation, and practice of chamber music ensemble work, especially that of an experienced violinist and pianist. The two artists will explore the process of coming together to form a collaborative interpretation of great chamber works, including music heard in the previous night's concert, but also unrehearsed repertoire so that the experience can be observed as fresh and spontaneous to all. Some of the workshop will be devoted to working with student and/or community chamber performers in a master class situation. Dialogue with the participants and audience will be encouraged. This concert & workshop are made possible by the Nellie Tholen Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, The Carpenter Foundation and the Sharkey Family Foundation. |
